Two Fic Tuesday

Welcome!

Don't mind today's letter being a little late. I didn't set this to post at the right time. Oops! But it's still Tuesday, and I still have stories for you.

This week I bring you a couple stories about people facing consequences. Maybe someone might feel that what comes to pass may not be deserved, or maybe not. Maybe you'll be like me and read these stories and come away feeling so satisfied at how they both end.

These days, I'm leaning toward stories where people get what's coming to them, and these two gave me that in such a delicious way.

Recs

Window - Charlie Hughes - The Dark
There's a weird, comforting satisfaction to this story. Seeing people face consequences for their actions is always going to be something that makes me happy. It's something I'm leaning into more and more, just because the state of things. I also just love the way this was formatted. There's always going to be a huge part of me that gravitates toward first person plural or second, and this gave me a bit of both. The ending is also just perfect for what it's doing, and I'm so pleased to have read it.

Asking For It/ - Kristi Demeester - Nightmare
This was absolutely fascinating. I love the way the title sets up expectations in one way or another, but the story unfolds into something a little sideways from what you think you might be getting. The aspect of religious trauma struck me in this, and the character's drive to see the ghosts held my attention. I loved seeing who this person has become, or rather, who she didn't become and now what all she's willing to do to reach her goals. This was just such a wonderful piece, and I'm so glad I stumbled across it.

Updates:

I'm back in Seattle and will be around for pretty much the rest of the year. I get to experience a real autumn and have my birthday with my partner and a lot of my friends. Sadly, there's one person still in Florida who I've spent several good birthdays with, but I still get to see her when I get back.

This weekend is Flights of Foundry, yay! I'm going to be on a few panels and have a Chill-n-Chat, so come hang out if you'd like.

Panels I'm going to be on:
Friday at 8pm PST: Submitting Short Fiction
Saturday at 11am PST: Writing and Submitting Flash Fiction
Saturday at 1pm PST: Creating To Cope
Sunday at 12am PST: Chill-n-Chat with me! (Come see me be very sleepy and probably ramble at anyone who shows up!)
Sunday at 11am PST: Drabbles and Microfiction

Besides that, the writing has been slow these last couple of weeks. I got out of the groove of doing things this last while due to preparing for travel, and now I'm finding my footing again. We'll see how the rest of the month goes, but I have hope I'll be on the ball again.

Be well, take care, and I hope you read something lovely this week.
