Two-Fic Tuesday

Welcome!

This week brings us a pair of stories that gave me Feelings. Sometimes that's just what you want. Both of them left me aching a little, and I'm excited to share them with you folks.

Recs

The 207th Time I Went Back to March 9, 1980 - Beth Cato - Uncanny
This is such a short piece, but it packs so much emotion. Things like this are why I love flash so much. You really see what people can do with such a tight wordcount and it's fantastic. This left a little twinge in my heart, but I really enjoyed it.

Old Wells - Thomas Ha - Three-Lobed Burning Eye
I wasn't ready for this to hit me as hard as it did. I should have seen it coming, though, and yet. This story makes me ache, and if I had the chance as a kid, I probably would have talked to those wells too. This one hurt, but in a good way.

Or maybe I'm just a narrative masochist.

Updates:

A brief update for the end of July:

  • I wrote a few drafts. Some of them will be submitted places, and some I just wrote to make myself happy.
  • Submitted to several things. Go me!
  • As of today, I've read 87 stories in July. Some of these were unpublished things, but even with those, it's a pretty good number.

We'll see what August brings. I won't be traveling this next month, so hopefully that'll lead to both reading and writing a bit more!

If you want to find me elsewhere, I'm on Bluesky at @howsweetthewords and I have a Ko-fi and Patreon where I post prompts, more personal/writing updates, micro-fiction, and miscellany. Tiers start at $1, but there is the occasional free post as well.

Be well, take care, and I hope you read something lovely this week.
