weekly log: Updates, future plans, and stories

Updates:

This week has been a little slow, especially since I just did the newsletter this last weekend. However, I've managed to go through and pull up some flash fiction markets for a few of the WW stories that I need to polish, so that's good. I also have some calls I want to get to over this month, so I suspect that's where my time will be going.

I've also been considering doing a few other things. Depending on how well doing this weekly goes, I might up it to more than that. I know a few people who do daily/weekday logs and I'm kind of tempted by that. It would still be something like this, an update and a story, but it might help me be accountable. I already do a small daily journal for myself, but I could mix that up and do it here instead. I don't know, we'll see.

I'm also back to considering doing a Patreon again. Mostly as a tip jar, but also to maybe experiment with a few things. I'd love to write postcards to people that maybe have some microfiction on them, or even record a few of the pieces I've written so people can hear them, but I don't want to do that for everyone everywhere yet, you know?

If I do a Patreon, most of the tiers would be getting the same rewards, except maybe the ones that would get postcards mailed out to them. I'd also consider doing a chapbook of some of the microfiction I put out on Bluesky/make for my own enjoyment too, and that would be priced at its own tier.

It's something I'm still turning around, so we'll see.

Story rec:s

Echo Syndrome - Jennifer Hudak
The ending of this hurt. I knew it was going to sting a little but it got me in a way I wasn't expecting. Every now and then something comes along that has someone not being believed, or having their pain or fear diminished and it just gets under my skin so badly. This had a little bit of that too, and just gave me Feelings.

Conflict Resolution - Holly Schofield
I enjoyed watching this story unfold, and we all know how much I enjoy an interesting structure. Seeing this evolve from one expectation to another was really great, and by the end I did smile a little, even though it's debatable on whether that's the appropriate reaction. Stories like this are why I enjoy flash though. You can do so much with such a small amount of words and it's great.
